A relaxed week of golf and sightseeing in the Algarve

A good golf holiday should leave you refreshed, not feeling as though you have spent the week racing between appointments. This relaxed 7-day Algarve golf itinerary combines three days on the course with sightseeing, unhurried meals and breathing room around your flights. It works particularly well for couples or small groups travelling together, including those with a mix of golfers and non-golfers.

Portugal Magik helps with planning, airport and course transfers, and rest-day private tours in Portugal. Our black Mercedes-Benz vehicles offer a comfortable way to travel, with vehicle selection based on your group, luggage and golf bags. We help arrange golf requests, but tee times are subject to course availability. We do not own or operate golf courses.

Choose one convenient base for the week

For this itinerary, consider staying in Vilamoura, Quinta do Lago or Vale do Lobo. All are established golf destinations in the central Algarve, making them practical starting points for a week built around nearby courses. Keeping one accommodation base avoids packing up halfway through your stay.

The best choice depends on your preferred courses and what you want nearby after golf. Vilamoura suits travellers who enjoy spending time around a marina, while Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo may appeal if you prefer staying close to golf and the coast. Choose accommodation before finalising the transport plan, and keep the order of golf days flexible.

Your 7-day Algarve golf itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Faro Airport and settle in

Keep arrival day simple. Meet your private driver at Faro Airport and travel to your accommodation without trying to fit in a round straight after your flight. When enquiring, tell us how many people are travelling and the number of suitcases and golf bags, so we can plan an appropriate vehicle.

After checking in, take a gentle walk, pick up anything you need for the week and enjoy an early dinner. If you are staying in Vilamoura, the marina is an easy place to start exploring. Leave any practice session optional, especially after an early departure from home.

Day 2: Ease into the week with golf in Vilamoura

Make your first golf day straightforward by choosing a course close to your base. The Old Course in Vilamoura is one real option to discuss when planning. Rather than building the whole day around a demanding timetable, request a tee time that allows a proper breakfast and enough time to arrive, check in and warm up.

Portugal Magik can help arrange your golf request and private course transfers. Confirm any handicap documentation, dress requirements and equipment needs directly with the course before travelling. After your round, keep the afternoon open for lunch and a quiet evening rather than adding a long sightseeing trip.

Day 3: Take a sightseeing break in Loulé and Faro

Step away from the fairways for a private tour focused on local streets, history and food. Start in Loulé, known for its covered market and historic centre. Check market opening hours for your travel date, then leave time to browse the surrounding streets and stop for coffee.

Continue to Faro for a relaxed walk through the old town and a look at its waterfront. Faro sits beside the Ria Formosa, a coastal lagoon system with islands, channels and important bird habitats. You do not need to pack every stop into one day: a leisurely lunch and a shorter walk can be more rewarding than a crowded schedule.

Day 4: Return to golf in Quinta do Lago

For your second round, consider Quinta do Lago, where the North Course, South Course and Laranjal are established options. Choose according to availability, your group's preferences and any guidance from the course about suitability. There is no need to chase a particular name if another available option makes the day easier.

Plan your transfer around the confirmed tee time and the course's requested arrival time. Bring water, sun protection and suitable layers for the forecast. Afterwards, enjoy lunch and some downtime. Non-golfers can have a separate sightseeing plan, with transport arranged in advance rather than assumed to fit around the golf transfer.

Day 5: Explore Lagos and the western coastline

Use your second sightseeing day to see a different part of the Algarve. Lagos offers a historic centre, places to pause for lunch and access to striking coastal scenery. Nearby Ponta da Piedade is known for its limestone cliffs and rock formations, making it a worthwhile stop when conditions are suitable.

This is a longer outing from a central Algarve base, so avoid adding too many destinations. Tell us about walking preferences or mobility needs before planning coastal stops, where paths, steps and uneven ground may affect access. On a windy or wet day, spend more time in town and shorten the exposed coastal section.

Day 6: Enjoy a final round in Vale do Lobo

Vale do Lobo's Royal Course and Ocean Course are options for your final golf day. We help arrange requests around course availability, with the aim of keeping the last round enjoyable rather than squeezing it between other commitments. If your group would rather revisit an earlier course, that can be considered too.

Leave the evening free for a final dinner and time to organise your equipment. Check that golf bags are ready for the flight and confirm your departure transfer details. A little preparation tonight makes tomorrow much calmer.

Day 7: Depart without a last-minute rush

Have breakfast, check out and take your private transfer to Faro Airport. We recommend keeping departure day free of golf unless your flight schedule genuinely allows it. Plan the pickup with enough margin for road conditions, airline check-in requirements and handling golf equipment.
