The Portuguese Monarchy
History & Periods
Four dynasties, 34 monarchs, 767 years.
Portugal was ruled as a kingdom from 1143 to 1910, a continuous stretch of 767 years across four dynasties: Burgundy, Aviz, Habsburg (during the 1580 to 1640 union with Spain) and Braganza. The monarchy ended on 5 October 1910 in a republican revolution that overthrew Manuel II, the last king.
