## Riverside and monuments 1. The Jeronimos Monastery, Manueline architecture at its most extravagant, built in the 16th century. 2. The Tower of Belem, once the ceremonial gateway to the city. 3. The city is easy to walk, but the distances between Belem, the old town and the viewpoints add up quickly. A private day with a driver and guide is mostly about removing that friction: no parking, no queues at the wrong entrance, and someone who can change the order of the day if it rains.
