10 Honeymoon Ideas in Portugal Beyond the Beach

Portugal is a common honeymoon choice because it packs coast, wine and history into short distances. If the beach alone is not enough, these ten give the trip some shape.

## The ten 1. Two nights in the Douro Valley, with a river hour and a tasting at a working quinta. 2. Sintra in the early morning, before the day visitors, then the coast road west. 3. A slow Alentejo day around Evora and Monsaraz, ending with the sunset over the plain. 4. Porto and Gaia across two days, so the city has time to open up. 5. ## Structure that works Ten days is a comfortable honeymoon length: Lisbon and around, one slow region, Porto and the Douro. Twelve to fourteen if the Algarve or southern Spain is included. Fewer bases and longer stays always beat a new hotel every night.

## Practical notes May, June, September and early October give the best combination of weather and space. Hotels in the Douro and Comporta are limited in number and book early for those months.
